About the Waterloo Dinner
Napoleon’s quarter century of blood, conquest and violent occupations came to an end when he was defeated by Wellington and his allies on June 18th 1815 at Waterloo.
A group of men, who had just built an hotel and six cottages at Crosby Seabank, a fishing hamlet, to serve people who now wanted to follow the fashion of sea-bathing. Due to be named The Crosby Seabank Hotel, the hotel was promptly renamed The Royal Waterloo Hotel in honour of Wellington’s victory at Waterloo. The small village surrounding the hotel became known as Waterloo after the hotel. At a celebratory dinner in 1816, the guests decided to repeat the event annually and call it The Waterloo Dinner, a tradition that has continued to this day.
Our evening includes a 4 course meal with matched wines from Jon @ Winetime at Scatchards who will give guests an informative talk about each paired wine
